This is Sarge. He is one of many mental health professionals that serve first responders and help us find healthy ways to cope with the stresses of our work. Sarge could walk into a room full of firefighters and zero in on the ones that were hurting, the ones that were stressed, and the ones that could use some love. After one of our own was killed in a structure fire, Sarge was there for us. He was an important part of many of us coping with the trauma getting back to ourselves, and back to serving the ‘Mo. Heroes need heroes and this guy was a hero of ours. Sarge passed away unexpectedly at the end of January. He left a gaping hole in many hearts, especially in his chosen human’s. Yesterday many first responders and others touched by Sarge’s love attended a memorial service for him. Sounds odd to fill a church with people for a dog’s funeral, but the number of people there was proof that Sarge did some amazing work. He made a  difference in countless lives. For that we’ll always be grateful.
