Today we proudly celebrate one of our own! Irmo Fire Chief Mike Sonefeld was declared the 2024 Public Citizen of the Year by the Columbia chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. Chief Sonefeld is celebrated for his long term leadership of the Irmo Fire District as well as his impressive history of community involvement. His list of accolades, accomplishments, and positive impacts to the citizens we serve is extensive. We know how amazing he is, and we’re proud to see him recognized by others. The NASW is an organization that supports social work through education, advocacy, and information sharing. Subject matter experts in social work, they help shape  and inform legislation and policies that improve the quality of life for all midlands residents.  They recognize what we see every day – Chief Sonefeld making a positive difference in the world.
