The Irmo Fire District

The Irmo Fire District, founded in 1963, is a special purpose district providing fire rescue services to approximately 33 square miles, comprising of two counties and one municipality with a population of approximately 46,000-50,000 citizens. Services to include fire suppression, auto extrication, swift water rescue, rope rescue and first responder care are provided by use of three fire stations. The Irmo Fire District fleet is comprised of six front line apparatus (1 Ladder Company, 2 Engines and 3 Command Vehicles), 1 Swiftwater rescue truck/boat, 1 off road 6×6 brush unit, 2 reserve apparatus, 1 squad (SUV) unit. The district is staffed by 24/7 365 by 43 career personnel, to include a Fire Marshal, Assistant Chief of Operations, Assistant Chief of Administration and Fire Chief, all who answer on average 4800 calls for service annually. Each shift is staffed with nine firefighters, three captains and one battalion chief whom work a 48/96 work schedule.

All of the Town of Irmo is in the Irmo Fire District, regardless of whether it’s in Lexington County or Richland County. From the town limits, the district follows the county line down Interstate 26 to the Saluda River. From there, it follows the river up to Lake Murray. From the Lake Murray Dam, the district follows the shores of the lake to the Richland County line, and then follows the county line back to the town limits. The Town of Irmo has expanded to include areas of Broad River Road that extend to Bickely Road. Also included are property in the Dreher Shoals/Farming Creek/Muskrat Road area. Maps of these areas will be included when they become available.

The Irmo Fire District grows as both businesses and residences are annexed into the corporate town of Irmo limits as well as internal growth within the district itself. The Irmo Fire District provides and receives automatic aid from several surrounding agencies between Lexington and Richland Counties. Headquarters Station

Irmo Fire HQ is the main station for the Irmo Fire District located at 6017 Saint Andrews Road Columbia South Carolina.

Northlake Station

Irmo Fires Northlake Station is located at 117 Lincreek Drive Columbia South Carolina.

Childs Street Station

Irmo Fires Childs Street station was opened in 2020 to meet the growth demands in the Town of Irmo.
