“B” Shift Responds to Residential Structure Fire

Crews from several fire agencies responded to a two alarm fire in an apartment building in the 5300 block of Bush River Road. The fire was well established and burning through the attic when crews arrived. An aggressive search was mounted based on multiple reports of people trapped, and we are happy to report that no victims were found inside. The fire was brought under control with help from the Columbia-Richland, Lexington County, and West Columbia Fire Departments. Of the building’s eight units, four were destroyed, two were heavily damaged, and two suffered water damage. Twenty three people have been displaced and one civilian was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. No firefighter injuries were sustained. The cause is currently under investigation.
