Irmo Fire crews along with our friends from West Columbia, Lexington County, and City of Columbia fire departments fought a stubborn structure fire in an abandoned restaurant at St. Andrews Road and Woodland Hills Road. The fire was reported just before midnight. First arriving crews found heavy fire throughout the building that had extended to the vegetation outside. Due to the volume of fire and concerns about the structural integrity of the building, crews initially fought the fire from the exterior. Once the bulk of the flames had been knocked down, crews were able to go inside and finish extinguishing the fire.
The fire became under control around 1:30am and resources remained on scene searching for hot spots and ensuring that the fire was completely out. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
