While most of you were sleeping, our C Shift crews were fighting a structure fire in an assisted living facility in the 900 block of Columbia Ave. Fire and EMS crews worked to evacuate residents and extinguish the fire at the same time. Fire damage was limited to a laundry room and did not extend into the rest of the structure. There were two minor injuries and the rest of the residents were safe and accounted for. Fire and EMS crews remained on scene for several hours to ensure that smoke was removed from the structure and to assist residents back into their units. Crews from Columbia Fire Department and Lexington County Fire Service assisted with firefighting efforts, and Lexington County EMS assisted with resident evacuations and care. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
