As we step into a new year, we’re taking a moment to look back at what made 2025 truly special, the people who showed up, stepped up, and made a difference every single day. In December 2025, we held our annual awards banquet, where we proudly announced our 2025 Firefighter of the Year and 2025 Rookie of the Year. These individuals were selected based on numerous nominations from Captains and chiefs across the Department, recognizing their outstanding service, dedication, and character. We are proud to announce Captain David Silva as our 2025 Firefighter of the year, and Firefighter Corey Brown as our 2025 Rookie of the year.
“David silva comes to work every shift with a positive attitude ready to complete whatever assignments and/or tasks that are given to him. For most of the year, Silva’s rank was an Acting Captain until he was promoted to the Captain rank in October. He has done an outstanding job riding up and makes very good and sound decisions on the fireground.” Having attended multiple trainings and conferences throughout the year, as well has having 350+ training hours recorded in Fire Rescue 1, he takes his training seriously and is always looking at ways to better himself. Captain Silva is a great employee who has been a great asset to the Irmo Fire District since day one and is very deserving of this award.
“From day one, Firefighter Brown has demonstrated professionalism and a positive attitude on every shift. He takes direction well, asks the right questions, and puts in the extra effort to understand his role and responsibilities. Whether on emergency calls, training, or day to day station duties, Brown approaches each task with focus and pride in his work.”
As we kick off 2026, we’re proud to recognize these two members and the standard they’ve set for our department. Here’s to continued growth, teamwork, and another great year ahead!
